OpenCertHub, the Big Data examination and certification platform for Apache projects held their launch ceremony and forum in Hong Kong on 24th April 2019. Open-source technology has been widely used by well-known companies in recent years, such as Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Alibaba Group, Tencent and Baidu. Moreover, the Apache Software Foundation (Apache) is the world’s largest and most influential open-source software organization. Among all the founding contributors of Apache, European and American enterprises constituted the most but a local HK technology firm – EmblocSoft, stands out. With its professional capability recognized by Apache,  EmblocSoft was granted the status as one of the Apache Hadoop founding contributors. On top of this, EmblocSoft is also the only Asian organization granted this status.

 

Dr. CHARM Ka Ieong Toa, Chairman of OpenCertHub, said at the ceremony ‘In the current technology-driven world, Big Data has become the fuel of the digital economy, and open-source technology will be an indispensable component of the digital economy. We are seeking for Big Data and open-source technology talents and we need those talents having international recognized standard. Hong Kong, with its renowned and well established international recognized professional systems, provide natural intrinsic advantage in the position as  global professional certification centre. In fact, that was the reason for OpenCertHub to locate the headquarter in Hong Kong. We are going to provide a professional international examination and certification platform for the Asia-Pacific region, which is designed to help the Big Data and open-source technology talents in authenticating their Data Quotient (DQ); supporting their career development; and also able helping the enterprises to find data talents in different skill levels and positions.

Mr. Tony CHAN, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of EmblocSoft and Mr. Andy KWOK, Chief Executive Officer of OpenCertHub introduced OpenCertHub to the participants at the ceremony, ‘OpenCertHub is the only authorized organization in the Asia-Pacific region delivering professional examination and certification for CPFA Certified Professionals For Apache projects which can cover more than 300 Apache projects. CPFA is an Apache-empowered, role-based certification scheme which covers different job skills and open-source technology level.’

Mr. Andy KWOK said that ‘OpenCertHub is a self-developed Online Examination Platform integrated with Big Data and AI technology, and the certificates will employ the latest technology such as facial recognition and Blockchain for verification to ensure the highest degree of security.’ OpenCertHub aims to provide multi-dimensional vocational skills support and certification system. Each candidate can choose their unique training method and participate in different examination designed for Apache projects to gain internationally recognized qualification on the skill level of their respective Apache open source Big Data knowledge.

During the launching ceremony, the organizer invited Mr. CHIA Pun Kok Herbert, Venture Partner of Sequoia Capital China Fund and Ms. Anna LIN, JP, FCILT, Chief Executive of GS1 Hong Kong to talk about their valuable expert opinions on Big Data talents development according to the current market environment.

After the launch ceremony, the organizer also invited Dr. CHARM, Ka-leong Toa, Chairman of OpenCert Hub, Mr. Daniel YUEN, Chief Operating Officer of OpenCertHub, Mr. David CHUNG Tai-Wai, Vice Chairman of RTIA Education & Training Committee and Mr. KK SUEN, the Chief Architect and Chief Adviser of GS1 Hong Kong to discuss about ‘Develop Hong Kong as the Data Talents Nurturing Hub in Greater Bay Area’. In-depth and constructive discussion among the industry leaders was centered around the role of Hong Kong, as a member of the Greater Bay Area, upon development as a Big Data nurturing hub  in Greater Bay Area especially when transfer of talents between Hong Kong and the Mainland has become more and more critical nowadays.
